Andersen Racing's Dempsey Rules
Star Mazda Action Sunday
At Trois-Rivières
TROIS-RIVIÈRES, Que., Canada, Aug. 17 - Trois-Rivières is the "National
Poetry Capital of Quebec," and Andersen Racing's Peter Dempsey was poetry in motion
Sunday as he led every lap to win Round 7 of the Star Mazda Championship
presented by Goodyear on that town's 1.506-mile, 10-turn street course.
It's not known if Mayor Yves Lévesque has any plans to give Dempsey the keys
to the city, but the 22-year-old from Ashbourne, County Meath, Ireland had
things firmly locked up here this weekend. In addition to dominating Sunday's
40-lap race, he set a new track record in winning the pole on Saturday with his
No. 21, which is sponsored by LotusWorks, Center Jewellers.ie, Quayside.ie,
Motorsport Ireland, Allied Interior Products and Trojan Complete IT Solutions.
He also set the fastest lap of Sunday's race with a 1:02.363 for an average
speed of 87.802 miles per hour.
Dempsey had a 1.465-second advantage over John Edwards at the checkered flag
on Sunday. Alex Ardoin and Joel Miller came across the line next.
Andersen Racing's Charles Hall of Sheffield, England, advanced seven
positions to finish fifth after starting 12th. He got by several of his rivals on the
first lap, and then methodically picked off some others for another strong
performance in his No. 77 sponsored by Blimpie, AccentBanking.com, Pardoes
Solicitors and Allied Interior Products.
Two other cars fielded by the Palmetto, Fla.-based team finished eighth and
13th in the 20-car field.
Tom Gladdis of the Isle of Wight and Gibraltar took eighth with his Marrache
& Co. No. 5. The event was his first street-course race ever, and he
concentrated on not making any mistakes on the tight circuit and staying out of trouble
so he could earn as many points as possible.
Natalia Kowalska of Biesiekierz, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland, had a
better showing than her 13th place finish in the Natan Developers car would
suggest. She qualified ninth and ran in the top 10, on pace with the drivers in
sixth and seventh place, until she spun mid-race. She quickly regrouped and
finished the event, but the spin turned her top 10 into a 13th at the end.
Hall continues to lead the series' point standings anyway one looks at it,
with or without dropping one race. Each driver's best 11 of 12 finishes will
count towards the 2008 championship.
Dempsey is now fourth in the overall point standings and Gladdis is sixth.
With the drops considered Dempsey is fifth and Gladdis is sixth. With the drops
only seven points separate the drivers holding positions two through six with
five races remaining.
Andersen Racing leads the team standings with 222 points to JDC Motorsports'
166.
The action now moves to Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario
next Saturday, Aug. 23. A doubleheader at the brand-new New Jersey
Motorsports Park Sept. 13-14, a race at Road Atlanta Oct. 3 and the season finale at
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Oct. 18 round out the 2008 schedule.
Sunday's race is scheduled to be broadcast on SPEED at noon Eastern on
Saturday, Aug. 30. The latest TV schedules are posted on starmazda.com and
speedtv.com.
Andersen Racing is sponsored by Allied Building Products Corp. It is the
official development team of Rahal Letterman Racing. For more information see
